The Call | Touring with Vern Gosdin

Updated: Mar 23, 2021

Lynn Moon McAllister, daughter of Georgia entrepreneur Mike L. Moon, friend of Elvis, and once owner of the Stamps Quartet, reached out to me and Merri Carla Bryant for acoustic guitar, drums and vocals to complete her sound for “Lynn Moon and Georgia Peach.”

We were to open for “The Voice” Vern Gosdin on the “If You Gonna Do Me Wrong, Do It Right” tour.

I remember the exact day that the call was made to discuss the tour. As I learned from my Dad, organize and write down everything, so I jotted down the name and asked about the spelling for “Vern Gosdin,” as I was going to do my pre-internet research on the subject.

At the time I was into rock n roll, and was playing in a funk band. I also had a bluegrass duo in which I played acoustic guitar with Judy on banjo.

I had heard the name Vern Gosdin and remember the moment I wrote down his name on that tiny strip of paper ( which I still have, btw!) [take a photo]

This name - Vern Gosdin - would change my life…

…it would be the catalyst for moving to Gatlinburg, in East Tennessee, learning to practice guitar every day, all day..

…seeking the elusive perfect show…

… and traveling from east to west on Vern’s bus, which we endearingly called “The Worm.”

We were off to states like Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, Texas and Oklahoma, Ohio – stages, stadiums and shows for thousands of screaming, adoring fans.
