Sheila E Honors Prince at Seabreeze Jazz Festival

The first year anniversary of Prince Rogers Nelson’s passing was one of the most moving experiences of my life.

As a musician and songwriter, and lifelong fan of Prince, this was epic to me.

At the time, my 48 year old best friend was crippled, fighting for her life, and living in a nursing home. It was a hard, hard time for her and for me, too.

The Seabreeze Jazz Festival in Panama City, Florida afforded my mind a few moments of “normal.”

Sheila E and her band reached out with their talents to the speechless crowd and orchestrated a moment of silence while Purple Rain played in the background.

Strangers reached out to each other in love and support for God, for man and womankind, and for Prince’s legacy and musical influences.

I will never forget, a man and I turned toward each other, and as total strangers united only by love of music, said the words, “I love you,” to each other and embraced as human hearts.

As a Believer, as a dreamer, as a heart that is filled with love for Truth and no hate, it was one of the most magical moments in the world.

Thank you, Sheila E. and her fabulous band for the inspiring moment for all on that day of Prince’s first year passing, April 21, 2017 at the Seabreeze Jazz Fest in Panama City, Florida.
